President Akufo-Addo has reiterated his government’s commitment to work hard to bring prosperity to Ghanaians.
According to him, his government is not only aiming at making Ghana stable but a prosperous one as well.
President Akufo-Addo was addressing the leadership, staff and operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) at their Annual get together ceremony held at the National Office of the Bureau at Ridge.
He said Ghana is not meant to be a poor country and that whatever needs to be done to lift Ghana out of poverty will be done by his administration.
MY TIME AT BNI
The President began his speech by recalling how he was detained at the very BNI premises he was now visiting as sitting President some 23 years ago as a guest of the State during the leadership of former BNI Commander Asasi Gyimah.
He also recalled how he taught the detainees he met how to play the backgammon game. He added that he had to leave his backgammon set for the detainees after his four days stint at the Bureau.
IMPORTANCE OF BNI
The President registered the appreciation of his government and by extension the people of Ghana to the work that is carried out by staff of the BNI.
He said the work of the BNI which is largely done in the dark and cannot be published is much appreciated.
ENCOURAGEMENT TO BNI
“Operating an intelligence institution such as the BNI in a free democratic society is a difficult task,” Akufo-Addo noted, observing that the State will do all it can to make sure that the work of the BNI is sustained.
“Whatever my government can do to retool the organization and enhance the working capabilities of the BNI will be attended to.”
MAINTAINING THE PEACE
“Everywhere I travel to in the world, I am picked out as the African leader who came to power through an uncontested election where there was peace in the country and the change of power produced on ripples in the body politic of the country and this achievement is not for me but largely for you who worked to maintain the peace of the country,” Akufo-Addo added.
He stressed the need to sustain the peace and stability being enjoyed in Ghana now.
