John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to upgrade both the fishing harbour and the railway system in Sekondi-Takoradi if elected.
Speaking at Kojokrom in the Essikado-Ketan constituency during his Western Regional tour, Mahama emphasized the critical role these two sectors play in the economic prosperity of the region.
He expressed disbelief that the current government has neglected these vital areas, which he believes are essential for freeing the people of Sekondi-Takoradi from economic hardship.
“The fishing harbour and railways are the backbone of the Sekondi-Takoradi enclave. These infrastructure projects were integral to the growth and development of the region,” Mr. Mahama stated.
Reflecting on his time in office, he recalled that the first phase of the Takoradi harbour expansion was completed under his administration, with funding already secured for phase two.
However, he expressed concern that the current NPP government chose to abandon these crucial projects, depriving the region of its full economic potential.
John Mahama also highlighted the state of the Kojokrom to Takoradi railway line, which he criticized for being abandoned by the current government, despite significant investments made during his tenure.
He assured the people of Kojokrom and the surrounding areas that a new NDC government would prioritize the revival of both the fishing harbour and the railway system, ensuring that the region’s infrastructure is enhanced to benefit all residents.
“As part of our commitment to development, the NDC will bring meaningful projects to Sekondi-Takoradi and Kojokrom. We will not leave any community behind,” he affirmed, promising that these initiatives would create jobs, boost local economies, and improve the overall quality of life in the region.
John Mahama also took the opportunity to urge Ghanaians to vote out the current NPP government, citing its mismanagement of the economy and the resulting hardships faced by citizens.
“Though we faced challenges during my time in office, the situation today is far worse under the NPP. The time has come to reset the country, and the best opportunity for that is the upcoming election,” he said with confidence.
With the December 7th elections approaching, Mahama expressed optimism that the NDC would win, assuring the people that it would be the first step toward restoring Ghana to its path of progress and prosperity.
