Broadcast journalist Dr. Randy Abbey has expressed his frustration over the politicization of the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey, in Ghana.
He condemned those who attempt to politicize this critical issue, stating that such people do not deserve to live.
Dr. Abbey highlighted the severe environmental damage caused by galamsey, particularly the discoloration of water bodies in Ghana, which have turned brown due to pollution.
Speaking on his “Good Morning Ghana” show, he expressed disbelief that individuals could turn such a serious issue into a political debate.
He emphasized that all institutions in the country, including labor unions, are against galamsey, but some intellectuals continue to politicize it, which he believes is detrimental to the country’s future.
Dr. Abbey also criticized certain government officials for their comments regarding the fight against galamsey, particularly as the country approaches the general elections.
He urged these officials to stop making harmful statements, warning that while they may be able to afford imported water today, the future may not be as forgiving.
He concluded by referencing a viral video of Prophet Kofi Oduro, founder of Alabaster International Ministry, cursing those responsible for polluting Ghana’s water bodies.
Dr. Abbey’s strong remarks underscore the urgent need for a unified, non-political approach to tackling the galamsey crisis.
