Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency in the Northern region, Hon Alhassan Suhuyini Sayibu has indicated that there is no sexual orientation that has not been legislated on in the country.
According to him, section 29 of the criminal code indicates even heterosexual sex is legislated on.
Speaking on the controversial Proper Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values popularly known as the LGBTQ bill which is currently in parliament for its passage, Hon Suhuyini said we have some sexual offenses in the country and stated rape and defilement as an example.
He says the laws on rape and defilement under heterosexual sex can imprison someone from 5 to 25 years maximum hence why too much talk on the LGBTQ act.
The LGBTQ bill has garnered more attention for more than two years now and parliament is expected to pass the law before the end of this year.
According to Suhuyini, he is enjoying the conversations around the bill which has reached the consideration stage, because that is where members of the house get the opportunity to speak more, and sometimes, members’ comments are not in favor of their party.
Sometimes these are the discussions the public does not follow and they do not understand that sometimes parliament comes together to pass bills in favor of the country, he added.
