Former National Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen has indicated that the MPs are scared they will be voted out if they publicly oppose the anti-LGBTQ+ bill that is currently in Parliament.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Ahotor FM, he thanked God that through the by-election in the Assin North constituency, the LGBTQ message went down to the extent that now the MPs are vigilant on their doings because anyone that will come out publicly to oppose the bill is afraid that, the people will vote against such person in the upcoming 2024 elections.
He appreciated the MPs for how they boldly stood behind the bill during the second reading of the bill. He said the Clergy, Traditional leaders, Politicians, and Ghanaians as a whole are against the act and hope the bill will soon be passed into law.
According to the National communication team member of the great NDC, “Every letter in the LGBTQ+ phrase has a meaning and some are even disgusting and dangerous to even hear”.
Parliament on Wednesday 6th July, unanimously adopted the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2022”.
The object of the Bill is to provide for proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian Family Values proscribe lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+), and related activities.
The bill now moves to the consideration stage; after which it will go through the third reading before it is passed into law.
