Another injunction filed against KNUST VC’s term extension

The extension of Professor Akosua Dickson’s term as Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has sparked a new legal challenge.

Mr. Isaac Mensah has filed an interim injunction application in response to a previous lawsuit from a university alumnus. This case is set to be heard on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

On June 20, 2024, KNUST announced the reappointment of Professor Dickson for an additional term. The University Council approved the extension during its 282nd routine meeting, extending her tenure for another two years, thus August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026.

University Registrar Ansah Boateng confirmed the renewal in an official announcement to both the university community and the public.

But in a motion dated July 29, Mr. Mensah argued that the extension of Professor Dickson’s term violated university statutes and lacked proper justification.

Meanwhile, the KNUST alumni community has urged the original applicant to withdraw the injunction, while various university unions have called for calm amidst the ongoing legal dispute.
