
Scores of inhabitants of Tamale the Northern regional capital on Tuesday poured onto some parts of principal streets in the Metropolis to register their displeasure over the erratic water supply which have eluded the Metropolis for several months.
The aggrieved and angry residents who thronged the offices of the Ghana Water Company Limited ( GWCL) chanted slogans, and called on local authorities to remedy the situation since is having dire consequences on economic activities and livelihoods in the area.
They lamented, the area has gone without access to portable water supply for months now, and bemoaned officialdom have turn deaf ears to their plights.
The leader of the group, Abubakar Osman, who read the petition on behalf of the protesters at the regional office of GWCL, noted residents are disappointed in the leadership of the company for remaining tight lipped over such life threatening issue.
Mr. Osman stated that, going without water in the Holy Month of Ramadan is a serious matter and must be tackled with immediacy. Some of the demonstrators also carried head pans and other water vessels to send a signal to authorities about the need to fix water related challenges associated with accessibility in the region amidst singing and written inscriptions on placards.
Meanwhile, the area manager for the Ghana Water Company Limited in the region, Mr. Steven Ndebugri however revealed his outfit unable to heed to the demand of the protestors with stipulated timeline. He cited problems confronting them at the moment which in effect have become inimical to render quality portable and accessible water supply to the Tamale township, and rest of the adjoining suburbs.
AHOTOR news’ (92.3) Northern regional correspondent, Lincoln Lechers had earlier reported about the situation weeks ago and emphasized that, residents in the metropolis were unhappy with the unabating water crisis in the region.
