Owura Amos Musi Blessing, who is aspiring to become the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says his decision to contest the position is driven by his desire to help consolidate the party’s gains and strengthen its administration in the region.
According to him, with the NDC currently in government, the party must focus on consolidating its achievements and putting in place structures that will help it retain power.
He explained that his decision to move from the position of Regional Youth Organizer to Secretary is based on his experience and the need for fresh ideas within the party’s youth wing.
Mr. Musi Blessing said his eight years of experience at the regional level have exposed him to virtually every major operation of the party in the Greater Accra Region, giving him the institutional knowledge required to effectively manage the office of Regional Secretary.
He noted that although mobilization has formed an important part of his work as Youth Organizer, his professional background is largely in administration, research, writing and law.
He said these skills are directly relevant to the responsibilities of a Regional Secretary, whose duties go beyond writing to include party administration, maintaining discipline, resolving disputes and ensuring that the party’s structures operate according to its constitution and rules.
“Originally, my background is more of administrative, research and all that. After that, I was news editor for ten good years. So I have done writing, doing all this job and all this. But the job of a secretary goes beyond writing,” he said.
Mr. Musi Blessing further argued that his experience working with the Regional Secretariat and constituency secretaries, particularly during the limited registration exercise, demonstrates his ability to work effectively with party administrators across the region.
He said he has also developed a strong understanding of the party’s procedures and structures through his years of service.
According to him, the Regional Secretary must be capable of maintaining unity and discipline within the party, particularly when disagreements arise among members.
He believes his legal background and experience in advocacy give him an added advantage in handling such responsibilities.
Mr. Musi Blessing is also confident that his record of service has given him credibility among the party’s stakeholders, including Members of Parliament, MMDCEs, constituency executives and other delegates who will participate in the election.
He said his ultimate objective is to help the NDC consolidate its position in Greater Accra, retain the 29 parliamentary seats it currently holds in the region and work towards increasing that number.
He stressed that his ambition is not merely about occupying an office but about using his experience, institutional knowledge and fresh ideas to strengthen the party’s secretariat and contribute to the NDC’s continued electoral success.
Mr. Musi Blessing believes his transition from the Youth Wing to the Regional Secretariat will also create an opportunity for new leadership and fresh ideas to emerge within the youth wing while allowing him to take on a broader responsibility for the party’s administration in Greater Accra.
