The High Court presiding over the ambulance trial involving Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson has dismissed all applications filed by the MP and the third accused, Richard Jakpa, seeking a mistrial and addressing allegations of misconduct by Attorney-General Godfred Dame.
Both Forson and Jakpa had submitted separate applications requesting the court to declare a mistrial, issue an injunction, dismiss the case, and investigate allegations of witness tampering against the Attorney-General. These applications were based on a tape recording purportedly implicating the Attorney-General in witness tampering and misconduct.
However, in her ruling on Thursday, June 6, Justice Afia Asare Botwe dismissed all applications, stating that the Minority Leader and his co-accused had not demonstrated any legal provisions that warrant a mistrial. The judge also rejected the request for an inquiry into witness tampering, citing a lack of legal foundation for such an action.
Ato Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister, and Richard Jakpa are being prosecuted for causing a €2.37 million financial loss to the state concerning the importation of 200 defective ambulances in 2012.
