Ghanaian artist King Rocky has boldly stated that the Amapiano genre, which originated in South Africa, has the potential to elevate Ghanaian music on a global scale.
He believes that integrating Amapiano into Ghana’s music scene could be the catalyst for showcasing the country’s unique sound to an international audience.
In an interview with Obaapa Janee, King Rocky expressed admiration for Amapiano’s rhythmic charm and its blend of deep house, jazz, and kwaito elements, highlighting how its infectious beats have captivated listeners around the world.
He noted that Amapiano’s “catchy and danceable” qualities could inspire Ghanaian artists to innovate, creating fresh sounds that resonate with both local and global fans. “Amapiano is more than just a passing trend; it represents an opportunity for African unity through music,” King Rocky stated.
“By combining our highlife and Afrobeat rhythms with Amapiano, we can not only make Ghana proud but also pave the way for a new wave of African music.”
He urged his fellow Ghanaian musicians to collaborate with artists from South Africa and other regions to promote cross-cultural exchange and broaden opportunities for African music on major streaming platforms.
With Ghana’s rich musical background, King Rocky is optimistic that Amapiano can serve as a bridge to increase the global reach of Ghanaian music.
