Alleged Rape Suspect Killed by Woman’s Brother in Eastern Region

A 40-year-old man, identified as Yaw Nyarko, has reportedly been killed by the brother of a woman he is alleged to have attempted to rape at Akyem Batabi in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region.

According to information available, the incident occurred in the early hours of the day when Celina Gbafa, 35, was returning home from her farm. She is said to have informed her brother, Bismarck Gbafa, 28, that Yaw Nyarko allegedly attacked her from behind with a stick and attempted to sexually assault her. She reportedly managed to resist after a struggle, during which the suspect allegedly picked up her cutlass and threatened her when she refused his sexual advances. She eventually escaped and ran home to report the incident.

The woman’s brother is alleged to have pursued the suspect into a nearby bush armed with a machete. Reports indicate that he found Yaw Nyarko hiding in the bush and allegedly attacked him with the machete, inflicting fatal injuries.

Following the incident, Bismarck Gbafa reportedly surrendered himself to the Akyem Oda Police, where he is currently in custody assisting with investigations. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding both the alleged attempted rape and the killing to establish the full facts of the case. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
