Founder and Leader of the United Party (UP+), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, says he is determined to challenge the longstanding dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana’s political landscape.
Mr Kyerematen said the two parties have dominated Ghanaian politics since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1992, but argued that successive NPP and NDC administrations have not adequately addressed some of the country’s pressing challenges.
He cited challenges in sectors including healthcare and argued that Ghana continues to face significant development gaps despite decades of governance under the two major political parties.
Mr Kyerematen said he was confident that, with God’s strength, he could challenge the established political order and offer Ghanaians an alternative political direction.
He reiterated his commitment to breaking what he described as the NPP-NDC duopoly and building a new political movement focused on providing an alternative to the two dominant parties.
The United Party emerged from the rebranding of Mr Kyerematen’s Movement for Change in October 2025 as part of efforts to establish a broader political platform.
