President Nana Akuffo addo has named former Criminal Investigative Department’s Director General David Asante Apeatu as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP). He takes over from COP John kudaloh who until his retirement was the substantive IGP speaking on 3fm late edition program.Dr Antwi Danso was hopeful the new acting IGP will be professional in his work.
He described Mr Apeatu as a highly professional police man. ”David Asante Apietu seems to be a bigger professional not in policing alone but has also undergone special training in his capacity as a crime fighter and also his performance while he was in charge of the CID”. According to Dr. Danso, the IGPs have always been fighting for autonomy since time in memorial. He also said that the term of office of service commanders should not be tied to a particular government.
Dr Danso reposed his confidence in COP Apeatu saying ” the acting IGP will work within the confines of he constitution”. Speaking on the legacy of the retired IGP COP John Kudaloh, he mentioned the establishment of the police college, and ensuring that professionalism was paramount in the police service he said, ‘if for nothing at all COP John Kudaloh has been able to bring a new face to the police service’.
He also said he will remember COP Kudaloh for his no nonsense attitude towards crime however, he has called on the new acting IGP COP Apeatu to take a cue from it and make sure there is more professionalism is the police administration and also ensure that we see the police service as the service that will serve the people of Ghana instead of serving any government. However the former IGP has pledged to make his experience available to the nation during his end of service visit to the president.
