Ghanaian actress and social media personality Rosemond Brown, widely known as Akuapem Poloo, has been awarded the Discovery of the Year at the 2024 Ghana Movie Awards. The ceremony took place on January 18, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Akuapem Poloo received the accolade for her outstanding performance in the film ‘Widow’s Gift,’ directed and produced by fellow actress Juliet Ibrahim.
She was in competition for the award against other talented actors, including Frank Ntiamoah, Mawuena Azumah, Augustina Aboabo, Sherit Adu, Quesh, and Martina Dwamenq.
During the award presentation, hosted by Ramsey Noah and Jackie Appiah, Akuapem expressed her deep appreciation, starting with thanks to God and the event’s organizers. She also extended her gratitude to Juliet Ibrahim for giving her the chance to star in the film.
“To be nominated, I want to extend a big thank you to Allah, and of course, to Juliet Ibrahim for casting me in Widow’s Gift. I also appreciate Ghana Movie Awards and Mr. Fred for believing in me. Thank you to all the producers who have supported me and cast me in their films,” she said.
This accolade marks a significant achievement in Akuapem Poloo’s acting career, especially considering the challenges she has overcome. The Discovery of the Year Award aims to highlight exceptional new talents within the film industry.
The awards ceremony attracted a host of prominent Ghanaian and Nigerian actors, including Jackie Appiah, Ramsey Noah, Adjetey Annang, and Jim Ike.
