Barcelona’s midfield maestro Aitana Bonmatí has cemented her status as the undisputed queen of women’s football by claiming The Best FIFA Women’s Player award for the third consecutive year at the 2025 ceremony held in Doha on December 16.
The 27-year-old Spaniard, who couldn’t attend in person due to a recent broken leg sustained in training, delivered her acceptance speech remotely from Barcelona. Her triumph mirrors her earlier 2025 Ballon d’Or win—also her third in a row—making her the first woman to achieve three straight victories in both prestigious individual honors.
Despite Barcelona falling short in the 2024-25 UEFA Women’s Champions League final (losing to Arsenal) and Spain finishing as runners-up in Women’s EURO 2025, Bonmatí’s individual brilliance shone through.
She earned MVP honors in both competitions, contributed decisively to Barça’s domestic treble, and was named the Champions League Player of the Season after registering four goals and a competition-high five assists.
This latest accolade extends a remarkable run that began with her pivotal role in Spain’s 2023 World Cup triumph and has seen her dominate the women’s game ever since. Bonmatí now stands alone in FIFA’s history, surpassing the back-to-back wins previously achieved by her teammate Alexia Putellas.
FIFA celebrated the moment with the caption: “First time was so nice, she had to do it thrice.” Her peers, including nominees like Putellas and Mariona Caldentey, were left in her wake once again as Bonmatí continues to set new benchmarks in women’s football.
