Ahotor FM Celebrates 10 Years of Impactful Broadcasting, Plans Expansion into Television

Universal Multimedia, the broadcast network operating Ahotor FM, has marked its 10th anniversary as a prominent voice in Ghana’s sociocultural and political media landscape. The station has officially launched its year-long anniversary celebrations with a bold vision to expand into television and introduce subsidiary multimedia channels to meet the evolving demands of its audience.

The event was graced by distinguished personalities from diverse backgrounds, including traditional leaders and seasoned media professionals.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of Universal Multimedia and founder of Ahotor FM, Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, reflected on the journey so far. He shared the vision, insights, and challenges that shaped the establishment of the station, emphasizing its mission to inform, educate, and entertain listeners in the Tema region and parts of the Eastern Region.

Dr. Ampofo highlighted that Ahotor FM’s digital platforms have enabled it to connect with a global audience, expanding its reach beyond regional borders.

While the station is known for its political and culturally diverse content, its programming over the past decade has consistently delivered in-depth analysis and meaningful conversations, earning the loyalty of its cherished listeners.

Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, General Manager of Ahotor FM, noted that the station has weathered numerous storms to provide rich, quality broadcasting over the years. He pointed out the persistent challenges related to bias in the advertising space, where political affiliation often affects access to sponsorship and advertising revenue.

“This discrimination has impacted the financial stability of our station,” Ocansey explained. “We urge political stakeholders to support media outlets that align with their values and content, especially in these challenging times when government institutions remain the biggest spenders in advertising.”

He further appealed to corporate brands, private companies, and individuals to support Ahotor FM’s vision as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts, and to help enhance the station’s capacity to give back to society through informative programming.

Veteran journalist and broadcaster Kwesi Pratt Jnr. also addressed the gathering, expressing concern over the neglect of media houses by political actors who often rely on them during election campaigns.

He emphasized that politically aligned stations often face financial hardship when their affiliated party is not in power, as many advertisers and brands distance themselves.

Pratt called for a conscious effort from both governments and political parties to support stations that advocate for their causes. “Media houses must be supported to survive all seasons—regardless of which party is in power,” he stated.

As Ahotor FM steps into its second decade, its commitment to media excellence and social impact remains unwavering, with expansion plans set to further strengthen its influence in Ghana’s media ecosystem.
