The upper Dixcove Traditional council have organised their first general meeting in upper Dixcove in Fort metal cross, at the western region.
The purpose of the meeting was aimed to address the house on impending activities and developmental policies, its intend to undertake.
The meeting seen organizations which are playing pivotal role in the development of the region particularly in the coastal communities.
Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV, the Omanhene of upper Dixcove in his welcome address acknowledged companies and organizations in their activities have pave way for communities to feel their impact in terms of health, education, employment among others.
The President of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Area, Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV Stated that, the major challenges confronting the youth in the coastal communities is unemployment and difficulty in finding places for internship or attachment after or when in school.
” Notwithstanding the presence of all these companies from Apimanim to Takoradi, the indigenes or the youth who are expected to directly benefits are mostly neglected and most cases are expected to play the second fiddle role in their own backyard” he emphasized.
” I am personally aware of several applications put by some of our youth to most companies either for employment or internships which have been left unattended to, in many instances I have personally placed phone calls and do follow ups on some of these applications but all attempts appear futile” he revealed.
He therefore emphasized that when young men and women are excluded from decent work, they could become susceptible to extremist discourse, and youth unemployment seriously hinders the sustainable development and growth of a country and also the youth feels their chiefs are not committed to their welfare.
He however appealed to industries players and team captains, to see to the employment of the youths, most especially indigenes.
Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV humbly appeal to philanthropist to come to their aid and give their current dysfunctional morgue a facelift.
However, the Omanhene of Upper Dixcove stated that the traditional council will look into matters relating to the high rate of teenage pregnancy in the Municipality and its associate problems, which bring about the situation.
He stressed he will collaborate with other stakeholders to curb the menace.
