Former Accra Hearts of Oak SC striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and his club FC Aarau have missed out on automatic qualification to the Swiss Super League following a heartbreaking 2-2 home draw against Yverdon-Sport FC on Matchday 36 of the Swiss Challenge League.

FC Aarau entered the decisive fixture knowing that a victory at home would secure direct promotion to the top flight. However, they failed to get the crucial win, allowing rivals FC Vaduz to leapfrog them in the standings after recording an impressive 3-1 victory in their own game.
Barnieh started the match on the bench and was introduced late in the contest, playing 18 minutes as Aarau pushed desperately for a winner. The Ghanaian forward received a rating of 6.2 for his cameo appearance.
The painful result means FC Aarau must now shift their focus to the promotion playoffs, where they will get another opportunity to fight for a place in the Swiss Super League next season.
The setback is a disappointing blow for Barnieh and his teammates, who had been on the verge of securing automatic promotion after an encouraging campaign in the Swiss Challenge League.
