AFCON 2025 QUALIFIERS: SUDAN RECORDS A MONUMENTAL 2-0 WIN OVER GHANA

Sudan recorded an emphatic 2-0 win over Ghana in the return leg of the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifier. Playing at a neutral venue (Libya), the Black Stars started the game brightly. Inaki Williams replaced Jordan Ayew in the starting eleven that faced Sudan last week Thursday.

With Ghana dominating possession Sudan were always looking to hit the Black Stars on the break with quick transition from midfield to attack in the first half. Ghana’s inability to find the target summarised their output in the first half.

Back from recess, Inaki Williams thought he had registered the opener but his strike was ruled out for offside. Then on the Sudanese started to open up. Abdul Hamed Mahmoud broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute after latching on to Lawrence Ati Zigi save which came off the work. With left back Gideon Mensah rolling helplessly on the ground Mahmoud was not going to miss.

Just after 3 minutes, danger man Mohammed Abdelrahman made it two for Sudan. The former Al Hilal striker slotted it in after beating Ghanaian center back Mohammed Salisu in a foot race.

The defeat leaves Sudan 2nd in Group F with 7 points after 4 matches. Group leaders Angola who are on 9 points will take on Niger later this evening. Ghana are on the verge of missing out on the 2025 African Cup with 2 points from 4 matches.

The last time Ghana missed out on the African Cup was in 2004.
