Adwumawura Programme Is Fully Funded and Different From Past Initiatives – President Mahama Assures Ghanaians

Kumasi, Ghana – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has emphasized that the newly launched Adwumawura Programme stands apart from previous initiatives that were announced with much fanfare but lacked the necessary funding to succeed.

Speaking at the official launch of the Adwumawura Programme on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, President Mahama made it clear that this programme is fundamentally different from others introduced by the past government.

“Let me point out that this program is not like others that were announced in the recent past with a lot of fanfare, but proved to be mirages without adequate funding to sustain them,” he said.

He reassured Ghanaians that the Adwumawura Programme is fully backed by solid financial support, with an adequate allocation already secured in the 2025 national budget.

“Adwumawura is fully funded with adequate allocation provided by the Ministry of Finance in the 2025 budget,” President Mahama stated.

The Adwumawura Programme is a flagship initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship among young Ghanaians aged 18 to 35.

Designed to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 new businesses annually, the programme offers a comprehensive package including skills training, mentorship, access to start-up capital, and essential equipment — all intended to ensure the long-term success of the ventures.

President Mahama acknowledged the scale of the initiative, describing it as ambitious but crucial to securing a better future for Ghana’s youth.

“This is an ambitious undertaking, but it is necessary if we are to secure a prosperous and resilient future for the youth of Ghana,” he said.

The programme is underpinned by a GH₵100 million allocation from the 2025 Budget Statement, presented by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson.

This major investment reflects the government’s strong commitment to equipping young people with the tools and opportunities needed to drive national development.

The launch of the Adwumawura Programme marks a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to reduce unemployment, strengthen local industries, and empower the next generation to lead the country’s economic transformation.
