Adwumawura Programme Designed to Be Youth-Led and Ghanaian-Owned – President Mahama

Kumasi, Ghana – President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed that the newly launched Adwumawura Programme is crafted to be youth-driven and exclusively Ghanaian-owned, offering inclusive opportunities to young people across the country.

Speaking at the official launch of the Adwumawura Programme on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, President Mahama emphasized that only Ghanaians are eligible to benefit from the programme.

“The Adwumawura program is designed to be inclusive. It’s designed to be youth-led. It’s designed to be Ghanaian-owned, and so you must be a Ghanaian to be part of the Adwumawura program,” he said.

Highlighting the programme’s inclusive nature, President Mahama made it clear that educational background would not be a barrier to participation.

“The Adwumawura program is regardless of your educational background. You can have little formal education, but you can become an entrepreneur, and the Adwumawura will help you to do that,” he stated.

He further noted that the initiative is designed to offer equal opportunities to all, irrespective of one’s level of education.

“Whether you are university graduates, you graduated from technical school, vocational school, alumni, you are senior high school leaver, or even those with little or no formal education, you will have equal access to opportunities under this program,” President Mahama added.

The Adwumawura Programme is a flagship government initiative targeting youth unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship among young Ghanaians aged 18 to 35.

It is structured to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 new businesses annually, equipping beneficiaries with critical tools such as skills training, mentorship, access to start-up capital, and business equipment — all aimed at ensuring the sustainability and success of their ventures.

The programme is supported by a dedicated GH₵100 million allocation from the 2025 Budget Statement, presented by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, signaling the government’s strong commitment to empowering the youth and fostering national economic growth.

The launch of the Adwumawura Programme represents a bold and strategic move to reduce unemployment, strengthen local industries, and position young people at the forefront of Ghana’s economic transformation.
