Veteran Nigerian actress Eucharia Anunobi recently encouraged her followers to stop seeking validation from others. In a post on Instagram dated December 19, 2024, she highlighted the importance of self-acceptance and not relying on public opinion for self-worth.
In her video, she posed the question, “Why do you want everyone to like you? Even ice cream isn’t loved by everyone, come on.” The caption accompanying her post stated, “Desiring to be liked by everyone indicates emotional and spiritual instability! Some will dislike you simply because they find joy in hating! It’s in their nature to be mean-spirited! So, learn to embrace the fact that not everyone will like you! 1 John 5:19.”
Her message resonated with many, igniting a variety of reactions in the comments section, from supportive to introspective. Actress Sola Sobowale responded with a straightforward, “Fact.” Others shared their insights: one user remarked, “Anyone constantly seeking public approval for their actions is clearly struggling.” Another comment noted, “Caring about what others think is natural, but letting that dictate your actions can be problematic.” One Instagram user delved deeper into the topic, explaining, “Codependency conditioning means that how people perceive you shapes your self-perception.
My mother always said, ‘Your opinion of me is none of my business.’ It can be exhausting to view yourself through the lens of others’ opinions. Regardless of your intentions, you can’t control how people respond to you. Allow others to perceive you as they choose; it’s a reflection of them, not your truth. What matters is how you see yourself.”
Another user shared, “I’m not fond of people who need to be liked by everyone; just be yourself and move forward.” One more added, “True! It’s perfectly okay to be seen as a ‘bad person’ in someone else’s narrative. Only God is truly perfect!”
