Action Taken After Shooting Incident at SDA Senior High School

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken swift action following a shooting incident at SDA Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, which left two students injured. A committee has been established to investigate the incident and determine necessary sanctions based on its findings.

The GES has deployed counselors to engage with students and provide support in the aftermath of the incident. Additionally, the service is providing training for teachers and security personnel to address the incident and prevent future occurrences. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure the well-being and safety of students.

As part of their Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), the GES is providing training for teachers on how to interact with students, particularly when conducting searches. The training emphasizes the importance of a sensitive and appropriate approach, recognizing that simply asking a student to bring their bag for a search may not be effective.

The GES is engaging with the community to raise awareness about the importance of school safety and the need for collaborative efforts to prevent incidents like the one at SDA Senior High School. By working together, stakeholders can help ensure that schools remain safe and secure environments for students to learn and grow.
