Accra Sports Stadium in Alarming State, Says NSA Director General

The Accra Sports Stadium, Ghana’s premier sports facility, is in a shocking state of disrepair, according to National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

Following a personal inspection ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad, Ankrah expressed deep concern over the stadium’s deteriorating condition, labeling it a “crime scene”

Ankrah’s comments came as a surprise, given the briefings he received before assuming office. The reality on the ground was far worse than expected, with several areas of the stadium requiring urgent attention.

“What we were told previously is not what we met,” Ankrah emphasized in an interview with Citi Sports.

This is not the first time the stadium’s condition has raised concerns. In December, the NSA closed the stadium due to its poor state, leaving clubs to find alternative venues.

Ankrah’s recent inspection has highlighted the need for immediate intervention to address the stadium’s alarming condition.

The Accra Sports Stadium’s deteriorating state is a pressing issue that requires prompt attention. With Ghana’s sports sector already facing challenges, it is essential to address the stadium’s condition to ensure the country can host international events and provide a safe environment for athletes and spectators.
