Accra Lions Appoint Richard Afoakwa as New Head Coach in Technical Team Restructuring

Accra Lions Football Club has officially announced significant changes to the leadership structure within its technical team. The club has appointed Richard Afoakwa as the new Head Coach, marking an important step in reshaping the first-team coaching setup for the remainder of the 2025–26 football season.

Richard Afoakwa, aged 38, steps into the role having previously served as Assistant Coach at the club. He brings a wealth of experience to the position, including his time as an assistant coach at Nsoatreman FC and his expertise as a seasoned video analyst.

Notably, Afoakwa played a crucial part last season in helping Inter Allies secure their Division One status by avoiding relegation in their final match of the campaign. He has also contributed to the national team setup, having worked as a video analyst for the Ghana U-20 side.

In his new capacity as Head Coach, Afoakwa will be supported by Johannes Pieper, who joins him to provide additional guidance and assistance throughout the ongoing season.

Meanwhile, the club has reassigned James Francis, who had been serving as the immediate past First Team Head Coach. Francis will now shift his full focus to the Academy, where he will take complete responsibility for overseeing all technical operations and development activities within the youth setup. This move allows the club to strengthen both its senior team leadership and its long-term player development pathway under dedicated specialists in each area.
