Abraham Koomson Warns NDC MPs to Sit Up After Global InfoAnalytics Projects 29-Seat Loss {AUDIO 👇}

TEMA, Ghana, 5th November: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Dr Abraham Koomson, has described the latest Global InfoAnalytics parliamentary seat projection as a wake-up call for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that some of its Members of Parliament are underperforming and failing to remain active in their constituencies.

According to him, the projection should serve as an opportunity for complacent MPs to reorganise themselves and improve their engagement with constituents ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem programme on Thursday, November 5, Dr. Koomson said some NDC MPs had become inactive, making the survey an important warning that should not be ignored.

“It’s a wake-up call because some of the NDC MPs are sleeping, and some of them are not active. It is good that these analyses are coming up because it is for them to sit up. It is not too late; we have about two more years to go, so it is good that these things are coming up,” he said.

His comments follow a parliamentary seat projection by research organisation Global InfoAnalytics, which suggests that the NDC could lose 29 parliamentary seats in the 2028 general elections.

The organisation’s Multilevel Regression and Poststratification (MRP) model projects that the NDC could secure 154 seats, compared with the 185 seats it won in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

The projection represents a potential loss of 29 seats, although the party would still retain a majority in the 276-member Parliament.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), on the other hand, is projected to increase its parliamentary representation from 88 seats in 2024 to 100 seats, representing a potential gain of 12 seats.

Dr. Koomson stressed that MPs who have lost touch with their constituents must urgently reassess their performance and reconnect with the people who elected them.

He noted that constituency development, accessibility and regular engagement with constituents are among the key responsibilities that could determine whether an MP retains their seat.

“If you are an MP and you know that you have lost grip in your constituency, then you have to reorganise yourself,” he cautioned.

He further argued that constituents expect their MPs to champion development in their communities and remain accessible whenever their services are needed.

“After all, what does the constituency need? They just need development. You must be open, and people should be able to reach you. But if you are an MP and your people cannot reach out to you, then you will lose,” he said.

The GFL Secretary-General also expressed concern that some individuals entered politics without fully understanding its dynamics, emphasising that winning an election requires more than personal popularity or appearance.

He maintained that voters elect parliamentary candidates based on what they can offer their communities and their ability to address local concerns.

Dr. Koomson further warned that the NPP is determined to return to power and would intensify efforts to challenge the governing party’s parliamentary dominance.

He therefore urged NDC MPs, particularly those who are not performing up to expectations, to take the Global InfoAnalytics projection seriously, step up their constituency engagements and deliver on their promises before the next general elections.
