Abraham Koomson Accuses Bawumia of Backing Insults Against President Mahama

TEMA, Ghana, 16th May: Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) Abraham Koomson has accused the 2028 presidential candidate of the opposition NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of being behind individuals who continue to insult President Mahama.

According to Mr. Koomson, the government should not be overly concerned about the opposition, insisting that the NPP is determined to do everything possible to regain political power.

Dr. Bawumia, in a statement issued on Wednesday, May 13, accused the government of undermining free speech and targeting members of the NPP.

He specifically cited the arrest and detention of the Agona West Constituency Organiser of the NPP David Essandoh as well as the decision to remand the party’s Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe Abronye into custody.

Reacting to the development on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, May 16, Abraham Koomson alleged that Dr. Bawumia is the person encouraging individuals such as Abronye and others who publicly insult President Mahama, claiming that the former Vice President appears pleased with such conduct.

He urged the NPP to focus on issue-based campaigning instead of insults and threats, warning party members against making comments about “dealing with people” should they return to power.

“They should rather pray to God because they are not returning to power,” he stated.

Mr. Koomson further argued that the NPP should not complain if they truly fear God, alleging that the party’s former Finance Minister is currently on the run over what he described as “heinous crimes,” while some party members continue to create tension in the country.

He added that if the NPP has any sense of shame, they should call on the former minister to return and face the issues against him.
