Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, recently hosted the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Sergei Berdnikov, at a high-level diplomatic meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The discussions spanned various areas of cooperation between the two nations.
Following the meeting, Mr. Ablakwa took to his official X (formerly Twitter) page to reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to its foreign policy stance, stating, “Ghana will continue to pursue our longstanding foreign policy of positive neutrality and serve as a credible voice for global peace.”
This engagement was part of a broader diplomatic effort, as Mr. Ablakwa had earlier held separate discussions with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Georgia during the prestigious Raisina Dialogue in India.
Talks with Ukraine
In his conversation with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, discussions centered on restoring and expanding bilateral agreements, particularly in education and agriculture. Mr. Ablakwa highlighted Ukraine’s interest in resuming medical scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian students and exploring broader educational partnerships post-conflict.
Additionally, they deliberated on agribusiness initiatives that could benefit both nations. According to Mr. Ablakwa, Ukraine is eager to rebuild its economy rapidly and sees Ghana as a valuable partner in this endeavor. He also conveyed Ukraine’s readiness to support global peace efforts, with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister expressing commitment to ending the war with Russia this year, emphasizing that Ukraine would not stand in the way of a lasting resolution.
Engagement with Georgia
In his dialogue with Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Ablakwa revealed that Georgia is considering establishing a diplomatic mission in Accra, signaling a significant step toward deepening ties between the two countries.
Discussions with Georgia also explored potential agreements in education, agriculture, and tourism, aimed at fostering mutual growth and cooperation.
Mr. Ablakwa expressed profound gratitude to his counterparts, saying, “I am deeply grateful to His Excellency Andrii Sybiha of Ukraine and Her Excellency Maka Botchorishvili of Georgia for their warmth and great respect for Ghana.”
A Commitment to Global Diplomacy
These engagements underscore Ghana’s proactive role on the global stage, championing peace and cooperation while maintaining its neutral stance in international conflicts. Through strategic partnerships and dialogue, Ghana continues to position itself as a credible voice for peace and development in the global arena.
