Abdul-Rasheed Saminu Issues Clarifying Statement on Ghana 4x100m Relay Preparations

Ghanaian sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has issued a clarifying statement through his management to address recent concerns surrounding the national 4x100m relay team’s preparations for the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.

This comes after Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team successfully qualified for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing despite the logistical challenges.

Ghana Athletics has taken responsibility for the preparation shortcomings and vowed improvements in collaboration with the Sports Ministry. Saminu continues to express pride in representing Ghana and urges continued national support for the athletes.

The press release, dated May 4, 2026, emphasizes that Saminu, driven by a deep love for his country and a desire to see Ghanaian athletics improve, had raised valid points about better preparation processes for major competitions. However, the way these concerns were initially communicated led to some misalignment with his original intent and unintended public reactions.

According to the statement, the issues have since been positively and effectively addressed by the relevant authorities. Saminu has clarified his position with humility, acknowledging that the situation resulted in some confrontational exchanges with media personnel.

His management stresses that this stems from his sincere commitment to building a healthier and more supportive sports ecosystem in Ghana.
The release reaffirms Saminu’s full dedication to the national team and his upcoming competitions, including what will be his first home appearance at the African Senior Athletics Championships.

It calls on all stakeholders, fans, and the Ghanaian public to welcome him with love and encouragement as he prepares to bring honor to the nation.
