In an unexpected twist of fate, musician-turned-politician Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has unveiled the unlikely source of wisdom behind his political strategy—none other than Ghanaian Dancehall superstar, Shatta Wale.
Speaking in a live video on social media, A Plus recounted a pivotal moment before launching his campaign for the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat. Uncertain about how to truly connect with the people, he sought the advice of someone who had mastered the art of influence—Shatta Wale.
“I asked him, ‘Why do people follow you? Why do they love you so much?’ And his response shocked me,” A Plus revealed. “He told me, ‘Follow the life of Jesus Christ.’”
At first, A Plus was taken aback. But as Shatta Wale explained further, it all began to make sense. “He wasn’t talking about preaching in churches or performing miracles,”
A Plus clarified. “He meant giving and supporting the people, just as Jesus did. That is how you gain love and loyalty.”
The revelation struck a chord. A Plus had always known that politics was about service, but hearing it from one of Ghana’s most controversial yet beloved musicians made him see things differently.
“God does not place wisdom everywhere,” A Plus reflected. “Sometimes, He hides it in places you least expect.”
True to the advice, A Plus incorporated acts of generosity and community support into his campaign. He focused on helping the needy, funding local initiatives, and being present in the lives of the people—not just during elections, but consistently. The results spoke for themselves, as his campaign gained momentum and widespread support.
As for Shatta Wale, he remains the ever-bold, ever-surprising enigma of Ghana’s entertainment industry. Love him or hate him, one thing is clear—there’s more to his influence than just hit songs and controversies.
