Independent MP-elect for Gomoa Central,Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus, has expressed his determination to fulfill his campaign promises to his constituents in the near future.
In a recent interview with UTV, A Plus emphasized his commitment to addressing long-standing land disputes in the area. He stated:
“Before entering the race, I conducted research to understand the preferences of the people. The results showed that more than 70% were unhappy with the current MP. One of the main concerns was land issues, specifically lands that have been taken from constituents for years.
This week, I plan to take significant steps to reclaim these lands and return them to their rightful owners.”
A Plus also shared his approach to winning the election, which included a needs assessment to identify critical issues like poor road conditions and insufficient toilet facilities. He remarked:
“When we began our campaign, I communicated my plans to the people, despite efforts by Afenyo-Markin and his team to undermine me.
The roads in Gomoa Central are in terrible condition, with the one decent road filled with potholes. We prioritized these problems, alongside the lack of proper sanitation, as key campaign messages, and they resonated with the electorate.”
A Plus, a musician who transitioned into politics, ran as an independent candidate and won the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat in the Central Region.
He defeated the incumbent MP from the New Patriotic Party, Nana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,000 votes, with A Plus securing 14,277 votes compared to Nana Eyiah Quansah’s 11,637 votes. Other candidates collectively received 10,112 votes.
