A New Chapter of Leadership at UGBS: Prof. Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah Appointed Dean

In a landmark moment for the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Professor Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah has been appointed Dean. He succeeds Professor Justice Nyigmah Bawole, who successfully led the School through two transformative terms, achieving significant milestones and strengthening its foundation.

Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah’s appointment is historic—he becomes the first faculty member from the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship to ascend to this esteemed position. This milestone not only marks a personal achievement but also highlights the growing importance of marketing within academia, the University of Ghana, and the broader Ghanaian economy.

A proud alumnus of UGBS, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah holds a BSc in Administration and an MPhil in Marketing from the School, and earned his PhD from London Metropolitan University in the UK. Over the past 18 years, he has distinguished himself as an academic, administrator, strategist, and mentor, serving the institution with unwavering dedication.

Twice appointed as Head of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah played a pivotal role in its development—strengthening its research capabilities, expanding its academic influence, and cultivating a culture of innovation, practice-driven teaching, and community engagement. His elevation to Dean firmly positions the Department at the heart of UGBS’s leadership and underscores the vital role of marketing in contemporary African business and governance.

Beyond his departmental leadership, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah has contributed to various strategic initiatives across the University. He has chaired key committees, including the Safety and Security Services Committee and the Marketing and Communications Committee. As coordinator of flagship programmes such as the MA in Marketing Strategy, Executive MBA, and Weekend MBA in Marketing, he has brought strategic vision and operational excellence, boosting enrolment, improving curriculum relevance, and strengthening industry linkages.

An academic trailblazer, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications in areas such as social marketing, behaviour change, public policy, entrepreneurship, and health promotion. His work has been featured in globally recognized journals including the Journal of Social Marketing, Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, and the International Journal of Bank Marketing. These contributions have established him as a leading voice in African scholarship on behavioural change and social development.

His professional achievements are deeply rooted in his commitment to service and faith. As an Elder of the Church of Pentecost and a member of the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Atomic, Accra, he integrates spiritual values into his leadership approach. He also serves on the Council of the Bible Society of Ghana and holds roles on several corporate and educational boards, reflecting a life dedicated not only to success but to meaningful impact.

Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for UGBS and the nation. It affirms that marketing is a key driver of innovation, governance, and economic transformation.
