The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has called for a collective commitment to peace and justice from Ghana’s key electoral institutions as the country approaches its general elections.
Speaking at a Governance Forum organized by the NDC in Accra, Mr. Mahama emphasized that for any peace pact to be truly effective, leaders from the Electoral Commission, the Chief Justice, and the Inspector General of Police should formally pledge to uphold peace and justice throughout the electoral process.
Mahama highlighted that elections are not solely the responsibility of political parties; rather, they involve all stakeholders who play essential roles in ensuring a fair and credible election.
By committing to a peace pact, he argued, these institutions would reaffirm their dedication to impartiality and help prevent potential conflicts.
He urged that this pledge should not only be symbolic but should include practical measures to ensure transparency, accountability, and security, reinforcing public trust in the democratic process.
