NDC Stands Firm: Joana Gyan Cudjoe to Appear on December Ballot-Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is determined to secure the Amenfi Central Constituency seat despite facing political challenges and underlying disagreements within its ranks, as well as opposition from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a proactive move, the NDC has initiated legal proceedings at the Sekondi High Court, seeking a hearing on November 7th. Dr. Rashid Tanko, the Deputy Director of Elections in charge of IT, is confident that Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC candidate for Amenfi Central, will appear on the ballot for the December 7th polls. He believes that internal party conflicts and attempts by the NPP to sow discord will not hinder the NDC’s efforts to win the seat.

Dr. Tanko noted that the party has pursued all available arbitration processes to foster unity within the constituency and resolve any differences, aiming to work cohesively to regain power and secure the seat.

In related news, on Thursday, October 31, 2024, the High Court (General Jurisdiction 6) in Accra dismissed an application for an injunction filed by the NDC and Joana Gyan Cudjoe on October 17, 2024. This injunction sought to prevent the Electoral Commission from printing ballot papers and notices of poll for the Amenfi Central Constituency.

The NDC’s lawsuit was a response to the Electoral Commission’s refusal to recognize Joana Gyan Cudjoe as the duly elected NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, as previously ordered by the Sekondi High Court on May 31, 2024. The court upheld the Electoral Commission’s decision, affirming that its refusal to acknowledge or afford any rights or privileges to Cudjoe was in compliance with the Sekondi High Court’s ongoing orders.
