Resolving the Bawku conflict will be one of my first priorities as President – John Mahama

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has vowed that resolving the long-standing Bawku conflict will be a top priority if he is re-elected as President.

The Bawku conflict, rooted in ethno-political rivalries between the Kusasis and Mamprusis, has caused deep divisions, numerous casualties, and hindered development in the region for decades.

Speaking at a Governance Forum in Accra, Mr. Mahama highlighted the urgent need for proactive steps to foster dialogue, mutual understanding, and long-term peace.

“Resolving the Bawku conflict will be one of my first priorities when Ghanaians give me the opportunity to lead as president,” he affirmed.

Recalling the relative peace Bawku experienced during his previous administration, Mr. Mahama expressed confidence in his ability to rally support from various stakeholders to work towards a sustainable resolution.

The Governance Forum, part of the #MahamaConversations series themed “Resetting Ghana for Good Governance and Accountability,” addressed Mr. Mahama’s vision for a nation at a crossroads.

He spoke candidly about the state of governance, describing widespread injustice and economic hardship impacting millions.

Mr. Mahama introduced several proposals aimed at enhancing accountability, including the establishment of a Governance Advisory Council.

This council would monitor political governance, fight corruption, and ensure human rights are respected.

The forum was broadcast live on television, radio stations such as Ahotor FM, and online across Mr. Mahama’s social media platforms, reaching Ghanaians nationwide with his vision for a more accountable and just government.
