This is a disrespect to the authority of parliament – Prof Gyampo on SC trashing speaker’s application.

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has voiced concerns over recent developments involving the Supreme Court and the Speaker of Parliament.

Gyampo expressed surprise and disappointment that the Speaker’s application was dismissed in a way he views as disrespectful to Parliament’s authority.

In a media interview, Gyampo suggested that this decision might reflect an attempt to make Parliament subordinate to the judiciary, which he believes undermines the balance of power among government branches.

He argued that Parliament, as the body representing the people, should hold a primary position in Ghana’s governance structure, as it directly represents the electorate, unlike the President or the Chief Justice.

Comparing Ghana’s system to others where judges are elected and held accountable to the public, Gyampo emphasized that the judiciary in Ghana should also be answerable to the people to maintain transparency and trust in government.
