MATCH REPORT: GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH WEEK 8

Match week 8 of the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League saw Accra Hearts of Oak drop 3 maximum points at home. Basake Holy Stars ended Asante Kotoko’s winning run elsewhere, there were wins for Samartex 1996 and Nations FC. Below is a recap of proceedings on match week 8.



On Saturday, Legon Cities shared the spoils with Accra Lions. No goal was registered at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The results was a true reflection of a game which produced less scoring opportunities.


On Sunday, table toppers Bibiani Gold Stars secured a 1-0 win over Accra Hearts of Oak at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Atta Kumi gave Gold Stars the opener in the 70th minute. Hamza Issah had the opportunity to level the score from the spot but goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi produced a superb save. The defeat leaves Hearts of Oak winless in their last two matches.



At the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Nations FC secured a 3-0 win over newly promoted side Vision FC. Faisal Charwetey broke the deadlock in the first half with a strong volley after latching on to Osei Kuffour’s cross.



Back from recess, the home side made it two. Charwetey with his second goal of the game in the 59th minute. Vision FC were kept at bay by Nations FC’s Osei Kuffour and goalkeeper Kofi Mensah. Danso put the icing on the cake with the third goal. Elsewhere, Bechem United recorded a goalless draw against Karela United. Fans of Bechem United were not happy with the performance of their players.



Basake Holy Stars fought hard to secure a point against Asante Kotoko. Striker Albert Amoah got the opener for the porcupine warriors in the 34th minute. Just when Kotoko thought the game was over, Prince Tweneboah broke their hearts by scoring the equalizer in the 81st minute. Both teams registered 11 shots on target. It ended Basake Holy Stars 1-1 Asante Kotoko.


At Nsenkyire Sports Stadium, Samartex 1996 returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win against in form Berekum Chelsea. Akwasi Sarpong’s opener in the 55th minute proved to be the match winner. This is Berekum Chelsea’s first loss of the season.



At the Nana Abrefa Nketiah VII Park, Young Apostles recorded a hard fought 1-0 win over Dreams FC courtesy striker Daniel Lomotey. The win takes Young Apostles out of the relegation zone. Dreams FC are without a win after 8 matches in the season. Elswhere, Aduana Stars fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Medeama. Meanwhile, Heart of Lions recorded a 1-0 win over Nsoatreman FC.



Bibiani Goldstars maintain their number 1 position on the league table. In second place is Asante Kotoko with 15 points from 7 matches. Hearts of Oak are 11th with 9 points meanwhile Legon Cities are last on the table with 2 points after 7 matches.
