Speaker Bagbin did nothing wrong – John Mahama.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, stating that he acted correctly in declaring four seats vacant.

Mahama emphasized that actions taken for convenience often have repercussions, referring to the current situation faced by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a consequence of precedents they established in 2020.

During a campaign tour addressing party supporters, Mahama pointed out that the NPP did not foresee a time when the precedents they set would be used against them.

He articulated that the NDC’s position is straightforward: they expect the Speaker to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, which he has done.

Mahama also reiterated a cautionary adage, stating that those who dig a pit for others may find themselves falling into it instead. He declared that the NDC is now the majority in Parliament and intends to protect this status.

Furthermore, he pledged that the party would leverage its newfound power to repeal many of the taxes imposed on Ghanaians by the current NPP administration, which they deem burdensome.
