NDC will rationalize taxes to ease the burden on Businesses – John Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised that the next NDC administration will reform the tax system to ensure fairness, so that everyone pays their fair share.

Speaking at a mini rally in the Okaikwei South Constituency during his two-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Mahama emphasized that rationalizing taxes will ease the burden on both consumers and businesses.

He criticized the current government for imposing high taxes that are crippling businesses.

“Business owners across the country want the NPP out of office because their policies have caused many businesses to collapse,” he stated.

He highlighted the NPP’s broken promise to shift the economy from taxation to production, noting that the government is now collecting more taxes than any administration in Ghana’s history.

John Mahama vowed to abolish several “nuisance taxes” introduced by the NPP, including the controversial 10% tax on betting winnings.

“It’s not the wish of the youth to rely on betting, but due to the lack of employment opportunities, they turn to it for survival. Yet this government still taxes their winnings. I will abolish this betting tax under the next NDC administration,” he promised.

John Mahama’s pledge aims to reduce the financial strain on businesses and individuals, creating a more balanced and supportive economic environment.
