Private legal practitioner and member of the United Party communications team, Lawyer Andrew Appiah Danquah, has launched a sharp critique of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, members of his family, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of behaving as though they are above the law and superior to other Ghanaians.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo-led administration came into office with an agenda that was hostile to the national interest, insisting that its actions consistently undermined Ghana’s governance principles. He argued that this sense of entitlement explains why key figures of the former government now appear unwilling to submit themselves to accountability.
Lawyer Appiah Danquah singled out former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, accusing him of deliberately evading accountability. He recalled that President Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians he would “protect the public purse,” yet the very individuals entrusted to guard state resources allegedly presided over massive financial mismanagement.
“The so-called watchman opened the gates,” he said, adding that the former president himself is accused of benefiting while public funds were depleted.
He further questioned Ofori-Atta’s credibility, noting that after initially claiming ill health to avoid appearing before accountability processes, a claim supported by senior lawyers but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reportedly indicated that the former finance minister was medically fit.
Lawyer Appiah Danquah described it as contradictory and unacceptable for a man who swore an oath to protect, preserve, and defend Ghana’s constitutional system to now suggest that the same system cannot be trusted when it demands accountability.
“This is not just hypocrisy,” he stressed, “it is a direct insult to the rule of law and to the intelligence of Ghanaians.”
