Berekum Market Women Honor NDC Running Mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, as Queen Mother
In a resounding show of support, the market women at Berekum’s Rawlings Park Market on Wednesday conferred a special honor on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, installing her as the market queen mother.
This symbolic gesture speaks volumes about the NDC’s strong connection with the grassroots and its unwavering commitment to the progress of Ghanaian women.
Madam Fati Bintu, deputy market queen mother of the Berekum Rawlings Park Market, praised Prof. Opoku-Agyemang as a trailblazer who has long championed the rights and progress of women, particularly market women. According to her, this honor reflects the deep respect and confidence the market women have in the NDC vice-presidential candidate and the party’s vision for Ghana.
“We believe in her commitment to women’s empowerment, and we know that under her leadership, our livelihoods will flourish,” Madam Bintu remarked.
She expressed optimism that an NDC government led by John Dramani Mahama and Prof. Opoku-Agyemang would transform their market into an ultra-modern facility, giving traders the dignity and infrastructure they deserve.
On her part, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who was in Berekum as part of her campaign tour of the Bono Region, expressed gratitude for the honor and reiterated the NDC’s dedication to advancing the cause of market women. She reaffirmed that, under the next NDC administration, a Women’s Development Bank will be established to provide affordable loans to market women, enabling them to grow their businesses and achieve greater financial independence.
Additionally, she highlighted the NDC’s plan to rebuild the Rawlings Park Market, which is currently in a poor state, assuring the traders that their needs would be a priority.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called on the market women and all Ghanaians to rally behind the NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections. “Your vote is a vote for progress, empowerment, and a better future for every market woman across the country,” she declared.
The Berekum Rawlings Park Market women’s endorsement of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further cements the NDC’s position as the party with a clear vision for Ghanaian women—one that focuses on empowerment, development, and prosperity for all.
