2024 Election: NPP Needs Opposition Reset to Rebuild – Mustapha Gbande.

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has suggested that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would benefit from spending time in opposition to recover and rebrand itself.

During an interview on Tuesday, following the release of a Global Info Analytics poll that showed former President John Mahama leading with 53.1% ahead of the 2024 elections, Gbande highlighted the need for the NPP to re-evaluate its direction.

He pointed out that the NPP government has been plagued by years of internal strife and financial scandals.

Mr Gbande specifically criticized President Akufo-Addo for prioritizing his family, suggesting that the scandals linked to them have contributed to the party’s declining popularity as reflected in the poll results.

“The NPP is struggling with deep internal divisions and corruption, while the NDC is entering the election united and strong,” Gbande said.

He also noted that even some senior members of the NPP acknowledge that the party needs a period in opposition to regroup and rebuild its image.

“For a party that prides itself on intellectualism, the current state of affairs, marred by political scandals, is quite disgraceful,” he added.
