Mr. Sampson Worlanyo Deklu, the Agent on Built Environment for the Bureau of Public Safety, has expressed his concerns over the tragic Buduburam stone blast incident, which led to the loss of four lives and left several others critically injured.
In his remarks, Mr. Worlanyo emphasized the need for accountability, stating that any party found guilty of negligence must face consequences.
He highlighted that residents reported receiving no prior notification about the stone blasting, which suggests a serious breakdown in communication.
“When lives are lost and people were not informed, it means something went wrong, and that’s deeply concerning,” he said.
Furthermore, Mr. Worlanyo called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
He urged relevant authorities such as the Fire Service and the Police to conduct a detailed inquiry to uncover whether the contractors were at fault or if there were other contributing factors.
“The police should issue a formal statement, and we need clarity on the real cause of this incident,” he added.
In an interview with Citizen Kofi on Adekyee Mu Nsem, Mr. Worlanyo expressed his frustration, noting that such construction-related tragedies should be avoidable.
“It’s unfortunate we’re discussing this when these issues could have been easily resolved with proper oversight and precautions”.
This statement follows the shocking incident that occurred on the Kasoa-Winneba Road Dualization Project site in Buduburam, Central Region, where a controlled blast went terribly wrong.
The incident sparked fears, as four people were reportedly killed and many others seriously injured.
However the Ministry of Roads and Highways has since launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
In collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ministry is working to confirm the exact number of casualties and ensure that those injured receive the necessary medical care.
In a statement, the Ministry extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and we will ensure a comprehensive investigation is conducted to identify the cause.
We are coordinating with the Ghana Police Service and NADMO to assess the full impact and ensure the victims receive the necessary support,” the statement read.
The Ministry also clarified that prior to this incident, 21 controlled blasts had been carried out at the same site without issue, in cooperation with NADMO and the Police.
They reassured the public that a full report would be made available once investigations are complete.
