The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is poised to reclaim the Hohoe parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections, following its loss in 2020 to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a tightly contested race, the NPP’s John Peter Amewu secured victory over the NDC’s Prof. Margaret Qaicoo, defeating her by a margin of approximately 5,000 votes.
This marked a significant moment in the Volta Region, as Hohoe became the only constituency out of 18 in the region to fall into NPP hands—a stronghold traditionally dominated by the NDC.
Despite the setback, the NDC has staged a massive comeback in Hohoe, with renewed vigor and an aggressive campaign strategy aimed at recapturing the seat.
Party leaders and supporters have expressed confidence that this time, the outcome will be different.
During a campaign tour in the constituency, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah conveyed a strong sense of optimism about the party’s chances of reclaiming the seat.
Addressing a large crowd of party faithful and residents, he emphasized the importance of the Hohoe constituency in the broader political landscape of the Volta Region and underscored the NDC’s commitment to restoring its dominance there.
Asiedu Nketiah attributed the NPP’s win in 2020 to what he described as a unique set of circumstances, including the influence of John Peter Amewu’s high-profile role as a Minister for Energy at the time.
He asserted that those factors no longer hold the same sway over the electorate and that the people of Hohoe are ready to return to their traditional support for the NDC.
“The people of Hohoe know where their true interests lie. They have seen what happens when they put their trust in the NPP, and I am confident that they will make the right choice this time around.
The NDC is ready to deliver and serve the people of Hohoe once again,” Nketiah stated.
The NDC’s campaign has focused on addressing local issues such as economic challenges, unemployment, and development projects, areas where they believe the current administration has fallen short.
Asiedu Nketiah noted that the people of Hohoe have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of progress under the NPP and are eager for a return to the NDC’s leadership, which has historically championed development in the Volta Region.
