The Ayawaso Central Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated 60 working committees with the goal of securing victory for the party in the 2024 general election.
The inauguration ceremony, held on October 6, 2024, at the Anglican Church in Kotobabi, was attended by regional NDC executives, youth organizers, and notable figures such as Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, and Mettle Nunoo Junior from the National Communication Team and other dignitaries.
The committees formed will focus on outreach and recruitment of youth to strengthen the NDC’s support base in the constituency.
Abdul Razak Yakubu, a former parliamentary aspirant for the constituency, highlighted the importance of unity within the NDC to reset Ghana and provide the kind of leadership the country needs.
He stressed that without strong backing in parliament, even His Excellency John Dramani Mahama would face challenges in fully implementing his vision for the nation.
Mr Yakubu criticized the incumbent member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, Hon. Henry Quartey, for being non-performing and accusing him of contributing to the constituency’s growing challenges, especially youth unemployment.
He also called out Quartey for his absenteeism in parliament, lack of engagement with constituents, and failure to educate them on important legislative matters, including the controversial E-Levy.
Mr Yakubu emphasized issues like flooding in Alajo, youth involvement in crime, and rising teenage pregnancies in Ayawaso Central, suggesting that Hon Henry Quartey has failed to address these problems.
He further accused Hon Quartey of selectively offering job opportunities only to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and criticized his leadership style as biased.
He urged the constituents to support NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Hon. Abdul Rauf Tubazu, for better representation in parliament.
Mr Yakubu advocated for capable, knowledgeable young leaders who will prioritize the needs of the people, not their personal gain.
He called on Ayawaso Central to reject absentee leaders and elect someone who will pass laws that benefit the people rather than creating hardships through policies like the E-Levy.
