The leadership of the Cocoa Carriers Association has suspended its indefinite sit-down strike, which began on Monday, October 7, following a crucial engagement with the management of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC) and a representative from the Ghana Cocoa Board.
Raymond Atanga Abobiga, the National Chairman of the Cocoa Carriers Association, stated that management has requested workers to return to post, promising to address concerns about their conditions of service within a week.
According to Mr Abobiga, workers at the Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots of CMC have resumed duties, hopeful that their grievances will be resolved within the agreed timeframe.
“We negotiated with our directors and COCOBOD and we concluded that we have to continue working while they sit down and reconsider our increment. So we decided to work today [Tuesday, October 8] and also expect something good from them.
“But then, when we reported for work today, the information came that I was not supposed to work but my colleagues in Kumasi persisted that if I was not working, then they were also not working so a call came from the top management, and they said, I should work.
“So right now, Tema is working, Takoradi is working, and Kumasi, we are also working. That is the current situation of the strike now.”
