I’m not here because of NDC but we all want galamsey to stop – John Dumelo.

John Setor Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the 2024 elections, addressed the media during the stop-galamsey protest, clarifying that he joined not as an NDC member but as a concerned Ghanaian.

He expressed his frustration with illegal mining (galamsey), emphasizing its devastating impact on the environment and the country’s natural resources.

Dumelo explained that although he could not participate in the first two days of the protest, he was actively advocating against galamsey online before joining on the final day.

He criticized President Nana Addo for appearing indifferent to the ongoing environmental destruction caused by galamsey and warned that this lack of action could tarnish the president’s legacy.

Rejecting claims that the NDC is using the galamsey issue to gain political advantage, Dumelo argued that the protestors represented a cross-section of Ghanaians, with no clear political affiliations.

He urged the government to take immediate action to address the issue, rather than engaging in political blame games.
