There is an urgent need for the United States and its allies to soften their stance on the escalating war between Israel and the Palestinians, which has reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left more than one million Lebanese homeless.
Anthony Acquaye, a security, intelligence, and conflict analyst, made these remarks on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra. He highlighted the destruction of crucial civilian infrastructure, including water and electricity supply systems in Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, attributing these actions to Zionist forces. Acquaye deemed this destruction unfortunate and contrary to the rules governing warfare.
He reiterated that the ongoing conflict has led to significant human rights abuses and has made life extremely difficult for those living in war-torn areas. Acquaye called for concerted efforts from global civil rights organizations to speak out against the atrocities occurring in the Gulf region. He emphasized that the war poses a threat to global peace and urged powerful nations like the U.S. and its quieter supporters to set aside differences and prioritise humanity by calling for a ceasefire.
While approximately 862 members of the Ghana Armed Forces have recently arrived in Lebanon, Acquaye believes their role is not as front-line combatants. He noted that Ghana’s relationship with Israel is strategically significant, making it challenging for the government to condemn the actions Israel is currently taking against the Palestinians.
