LEWANDOWSKI SECURES NARROW 1-0 WIN FOR BARCELONA AGAINST GETAFE

FC Barcelona welcomed Getafe at the Estadio Olimpic Lluis Companys in La Liga on Wednesday evening. Before kick-off off La Liga Player of the Month for August Raphinha received his award in front of the home fans.

Getafe launched an attack in the 7th minute. Alex Sola found Carlos Perez with a good cross after dispossessing Lamin Yamal. Perez’s point-blank header was saved by goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

Robert Lewandowski pounced on Jules Kounde’s cross in the penalty box to register his 7th goal of the season. Barcelona’s dominance was starting to show. Lewandowski fired in Barcelona’s second in the 30th minute but the Polish had his strike ruled out for offside.

Inigo Martinez had his passing game on. His wonderful pass to Lewandowski nearly produced Barcelona’s second but Soria made a good save just before the interval break.

Back from recess Lamine Yamal fired in a long-range curler which forced a great save from Soria. Getafe kept Barcelona at bay in the second half. Yamal hit the woodwork in the 70th minute with a volley.

The likes of Eric Garcia and Raphinha failed to capitalize on big chances. Former Real Madrid player Borja Mayoral had Getafe’s best chance of the evening in added time but the striker failed to get a full blast of the ball.

Barcelona won by the narrowest of margins. Robert Lewandowski’s strike was enough to secure a 7th consecutive win for Flick’s side.
