The vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has strongly urged trainee nurses and midwives to resist the government’s temporary inducements ahead of the elections, emphasizing the importance of long-term benefits over short-term gains.
Speaking to students at Essiama Nursing and Midwifery Training College and Asanta SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the Ellembele Constituency, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged them to choose a future-focused plan, rather than be swayed by vote-driven incentives.
She pointed to the ongoing challenges at their institutions, questioning why the government is neglecting critical needs such as the construction of male hostels and a skills lab while offering superficial financial rewards.
“They’ll send you some money to vote for them, but the real projects will remain abandoned,” she warned.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the NDC’s track record under John Dramani Mahama, noting that his administration invested significantly in upgrading health facilities and building modern hospitals across the country to support the healthcare sector.
She underscored that the NDC consistently prioritizes both the welfare of health professionals and the healthcare needs of Ghanaians.
Reminding the students that the NDC places the youth at the center of its policies and rewards young people, she urged them to vote for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections to secure a brighter future.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also expressed her disappointment with the current government’s failure to meet the needs of the health sector.
